Dr. Kulbhushan Kothari

For the past 40 years,
Prof. K.B. Kothari has served in a variety of
community, local, national, regional and international
levels with major roles and responsibilities for
education and health development, planning, programming,
management and evaluation. These tasks involved
designing, organizing and implementing community-based
development programmes in health, nutrition, education,
water and environmental sanitation sectors.
He is an M.S. in Sociology and Communication from
the University of Kentucky, USA followed by an Advanced
Research from the “London School of Economics and
Political Science”, London, England. Is a Fellow of
IIM, Ahmedabad and a Senior Fellow of the “School of
Management”, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
He has had several opportunities and responsibilities in
people centered policy development, planning and
management in almost all parts of India and all regions
of the world. In the 1990's major responsibilities
involved social policy, planning and evaluation work in
the East Asia and the Pacific Countries and UNICEF
Head Quarter in New York. |
He has been associated with
outstanding national and international organizations
such as IIM Ahmedabad, AMUL and NDDB- Anand and
UNICEF- New York. Currently, he is Hon. Managing
Trustee for PRATHAM- an NGO dedicated to
education, skilling and social entrepreneurship.
1998 onwards, he has had several roles like Chairman,
“Lok Samvad Sansthan”, Jaipur; Chairman, “Kothari
Foundation”, Jaipur; Managing Trustee, "PRATHAM
Rajasthan"; Member of Syndicate and Selection Committee
of the JNV University, Jodhpur as a nominee of the
Government of Rajasthan; Scientific Advisor, ICAR-World
Bank -National Agricultural Technology Project for Arid
Areas amongst others.
Earlier, as Deputy Regional Director and Acting Regional
Director for UNICEF in East Asia and the Pacific, he led
the technical advisory and management teams for
programme planning and development in 26 countries of
East Asia and the Pacific with UNICEF support.
He also was a Management Advisor to the Director-General
of Regional Development in the Ministry of Home Affairs,
Government of Indonesia, visiting faculty for IIT
Madras, IIPA, New Delhi and Indian Institute of Mass
Communication, New Delhi.
He has guided several research and major consultancy
projects concerning development problems and issues and
published monographs, articles, papers and reports.
