Mr. Chander Mohan, during his distinguished service of close to three decades with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, had been primarily responsible for design, development and delivery of Science & Technology (S&T) packages to address societal challenges, promote entrepreneurship, mainstreaming & empowering women in S&T domain and promotion of scientific temperament among masses. He is credited with pioneering various initiatives & interventions which won numerous accolades. Chief among his many achievements has been conceiving the Science Express (SE), a unique exhibition train in 2007, which under his stewardship attracted over 18.6 million visitors during its 10 years long run to over 530 locations across India. It created history and was adjudged as the longest running and most visited science exhibition in the World as well as 10 other entries in the prestigious Limca Book of Records besides receiving unprecedented media coverage. He is also recognized for his novel & innovative initiatives during early years of his career in Entrepreneurship & Skill Development for sustainable livelihoods, particularly in hilly terrains and in the hinterland. Most recently, he served as Chair Professor, UGC Chair for Tribal Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University where he created a niche through his astute academic & administrative contributions. He holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Panjab University with specialization in Renewable Energy and a Diploma in Management. He presently makes concerted efforts in the realms of Science Communication, Renewable Energy, Skill Development and Career Counselling. In addition, he is focussing on mentoring start-ups in Mental Health and Technology space along with conducting popular Workshops & Interactive Sessions on Soft Skills for faculty as well as scholars of academic institutions and regularly delivers Motivational Talks among youth too. Further, he serves on many Advisory Committees & Task Forces of the Government and non-Government Organisations.
